WORLD DANCE DAY
The Natya Vriksha World Dance Day celebration, in collaboration with the India International Center, has become a fixture in the artistic calendar of New Delhi each year since 2008. This event has grown from only evening performances, to a 2-day festival with workshops, keynote lectures, talks, films, panel discussions, and the Young Dancers’ Festival.
The idea of the Natya Vriksha World Dance Day is to bring together the community of artists and art appreciators together to discuss, network and learn from each other. The World Dance Day celebrations and offerings are not limited only to Bharatnatyam but to all the classical dances as well as contemporary dances of the country. The speakers at the World Dance Day are all experts in their chosen fields and represent the multitude of possibilities and the range of subjects that the performing arts such as dance have to offer. The curation and execution of the event is done by Geeta Chandran with the Natya Vriksha family.
The highlight of the event is the Young Dancers festival where leading dancers from diverse styles are invited to perform, from across the country. The experience of dancing at this festival is a true Natya Vriksha one, with every detail addressed. The artists are all paid to perform, holding true to the NV philosophy that artists have to be supported financially. NV also works to ensure that the artists have a good audience at the festival.
